Choose Create, Line, Endpoint.

Line ribbon bar

Use this ribbon bar to create lines with two endpoints. Click in the graphics window to set the two endpoints.  Alternatively, you can enter values in the Length and Angle fields and then click in the graphics window to position the line.

This function allows you to enter values in the X, Y, and Z fields in AutoCursor to position either or both of the line endpoints. When creating multi-line entities, you can enter values in the X, Y, and Z fields in AutoCursor to position any or all of the endpoints.

Use this ribbon bar to create the following types of lines:

Angular and Polar

To create a line with a specific angle, it is easiest to manually enter your desired angle into both the Angle and Length fields before you create the line. To create multiple lines with a specific angle, hard lock the Angle field.

You can set polar angles in this field. The angle is calculated in a counterclockwise direction from the positive horizontal axis that runs through the known point in the current construction plane. To calculate angles in a clockwise direction, enter a negative value.

For angular lines, you can also set the AutoCursor to snap the angle of the line by number of degrees while selecting the second endpoint. This is referred to as the “angular mode.” To do this, open the AutoCursor Settings dialog box (by clicking the Config buttonj14 on the AutoCursor ribbon bar) and set the degrees to snap in the Angular field (shown below).

This angular mode will remain set unless you manually change it.

Horizontal and Vertical

Use the Vertical and Horizontal buttons (shown below) to quickly and easily create only horizontal or vertical lines. Choosing one of these buttons forces the line to be created as either a vertical or horizontal line.

j11Horizontal button

You can also create horizontal and vertical lines by using Mastercam’s Visual Cues. Click to define the first endpoint and begin creating the line. When the line comes close to a horizontal position, the horizontal/vertical visual cue (shown below) will appear next to the cursor and you can click to snap the endpoint to that position.

You can also set AutoCursor to snap the angle of the line by 90 degrees. After you click to create the first endpoint, your line will snap to horizontal and vertical positions easily. This is referred to as the “angular mode.” To do this, open the AutoCursor dialog box and set the degrees to snap in the Angular field (shown below).

This angular mode will remain set unless you manually change it.

Multiple Lines (connected at their endpoints)

To create connected multiple lines, choose (depress) the Multi-Line button, click in the graphics window to set each of the connecting endpoints, and double click the final endpoint or press [Esc] to complete the line.

class=”dropspot” href=”javascript:TextPopup(this)” id=”a6″>Tangent

You can create lines that are tangent to arcs and splines. These lines can be tangent at an angle or lines tangent to arcs. Mastercam’s auto-preview feature shows you where the line will be created as you approach the entity to be tangent to.

Note: When creating tangent lines (including lines perpendicular to a line and tangent to an arc), the line may be created on an extended portion of the selected entity.

Shortcut Keys

1 – Edit endpoint 1 (edits first endpoint)

2 – Edit endpoint 2 (edits second endpoint)

M – Multi-lines (toggles multi-lines joined at endpoints)

L – Length (defines line length)

A – Angle (defines polar angle)

V – Vertical

H – Horizontal

T – Tangent (creates lines tangent to an arc)

P – Apply

O – OK (fixes live entity and exits function)
